What is the Screening Process?

The first testing session is called the screening. Clients can expect to be led through a series of visual tasks in different levels of light and in various fonts to determine if they have Irlen symptoms. The screening includes an extensive evaluation of reading comfort and difficulties, as well as levels of light sensitivity. Kelli Nye and Kassi Greene, your certified Irlen screeners, take great care in ensuring the client is comfortable and supported during the screening process.

After the screening, you will know if you have Irlen Syndrome, how severe you are, and what distortions, if any, you have. The screener will carefully evaluate to see if colored overlays over the page help treat and alleviate your symptoms. Part 1 of the screening takes 2-3 hours. The charge for a screening at South County Irlen is $175 and includes the overlays (most people needing between 1-3), all follow-up reports sent to Irlen Internation, recommendations for school/work, and information about all distortions the client experiences.

The second part of the testing can only be carried out by a certified Irlen Diagnosticial. This precision testing determines the personal color of lenses, or spectral filters, which can be worn as glasses or contact lenses. If you choose to advance to part two of testing, we will refer you to Irlen International Headquarters in Long Beach, CA for diagnostic testing. We will provide all your information from the screening for you.
